Sydney sparkles for Mardi Gras
09 March, 2018
Sydney turned on a rainbow coloured party for Mardi Gras on Saturday night and Transport’s fabulous float was right in the middle of the action.
Sixty staff, friends and family members donned party hi-vis and shimmied their way from the CBD to Moore Park in celebration of love, diversity and inclusion.
Around 300,000 people poured into the city to celebrate Mardi Gras and cheer on the 12,500 parade participants and 195 floats.
In honour of the parade’s 40th year, a 1978 heritage bus loaded with spectacular disco balls was put back into service for the night, taking centre stage as the Transport for NSW float and following the parade crew as they danced their way down Liverpool, Oxford, Flinders Streets and onwards south.
A team of dedicated staff from right across the cluster worked tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver seamless transport solutions and promote public transport options to and from the city.
Extra late night services were available to help people get home after the celebrations, while major Sydney CBD roads were closed.
