George Street is open again for Christmas this year and will provide lots of festive fun for the whole family.

Transport for NSW Coordinator General Marg Prendergast today announced Christmas is coming early for George Street with eight gigantic wreaths to be installed over seven nights from 17 November between Park Street and Martin Place.

“Last year, our Christmas activation program was hugely successful, and this year we’re looking forward to an even bigger and better Christmas on George Street with more dazzling wreaths, lights and decorations,” she said.

“This is about placemaking; we are enlivening and transforming public spaces in the heart of the city as we welcome the start of the retail Christmas trading season.”

Touted as Sydney’s selfie central, Christmas on George Street will be the new go-to holiday hotspot over the festive season.

“This Christmas, we will be installing our decorations in November, so that retailers and shoppers can enjoy the Christmas vibe for longer.

“George Street is going to once again be Sydney’s hottest selfie spot and key shopping destination, so come along with your friends and family to get your Christmas gifts and celebrate Christmas,” she said.

George Street will dazzle for even longer than last year until the New Year (3 January).
