Sydney CBD road works over Easter holidays
18 April, 2019

As many holidaymakers head out of town this Easter long weekend, construction crews will take advantage of the quieter public holiday period to ramp up finishing works at key intersections across the CBD and South East Light Rail alignment.

Transport for NSW Coordinator General Marg Prendergast said the Easter Holiday period was the ideal time to get a significant amount of major construction work done in the CBD while the roads are less busy.

“This year, the Easter long weekend and Anzac Day public holiday fall in the same week, giving us a window to forge ahead with vital work on major infrastructure projects,” said Ms Prendergast.

“We collaborate with all project teams to schedule road works at times when traffic volumes are lower – it’s all about minimising disruption for our customers and communities.”

Crews working on the CBD and South East Light Rail will be undertaking finishing works at the intersections at Hunter and Margaret Streets; and Pitt Street, Eddy Avenue and Rawson Place. Motorists should follow signs and instructions from traffic controllers.

Ms Prendergast said road users heading out of Sydney should plan their trips in advance, allow extra travel time and factor in plenty of time for breaks.

“Traffic will be particularly heavy on roads to and from the airport across the weekend so travelers should leave plenty of extra travel time or consider taking the train to Sydney Airport,” said Ms Prendergast.

“The Sydney Fish Market at Pyrmont is very popular at this time of year and is expected to be busy today and Good Friday. Special event clearways will be in place around the Fish Market from 3am to 7pm on both days. Check signs before parking as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies.”

Ausgrid crews will carry out work on sites across the city over the Easter and Anzac weekends to maintain a safe and reliable electricity supply in Sydney’s CBD. Traffic control and temporary parking restrictions will be in place to assist road users and pedestrians to move around the work areas safely.

Also, customers travelling on the T4 Illawarra Line are reminded that buses will replace trains between Bondi Junction and Central Station from 19-22 April as part of Sydney Trains planned trackwork.
