Major work is forging ahead to remove the disused toll booths from the northern end of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, which will include a 56-hour closure of part of the Cahill Expressway.

From 8pm Friday 31 July to 5am Monday 3 August, lanes seven and eight on the Sydney Harbour Bridge will be closed to allow crews to safely remove the toll booths and toll office from the road deck.

Howard Collins, Chief Operations Officer at Transport for NSW said while these two lanes are closed, vehicles can use lanes one to six on the Bridge to join the Cahill Expressway at the southern end, or the Sydney Harbour Tunnel, to continue their journey.

“The bus lane on the Cahill Expressway will remain open to buses and taxis from 10am to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday”, Mr Collins said.

Transport for NSW encourages motorists to allow extra travel time, drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

Removing the northern toll booths will help improve traffic flow and safety for more than 160,000 motorists who use the Sydney Harbour Bridge every day.
